Mumbai : Goan Sports Association encountered quite a strong challenge from Central Bank before snatching a 3-1 victory in a tense Second Division final of the MHAL (Mumbai Hockey Association Limited) League, played at the MHAL Stadium, Churchgate. The victors led 2-0 at half-time.
The Goans were well served by Naushad who struck a brace and Manoj Lokhande who added the third to ensure they emerged triumphant. Central Bank who tried their best and put up a good fight could manage just one goal scored by J. Singh early in the second half.
The final saw both teams adopt a positive attacking approach and engage in a keen tussle for supremacy before the Goans produced two quick goals midway through the opening session grab the advantage. In the 12th minute Naushad found the target and four minutes later Lokhande struck the second to give the Goan outfit the upper hand.
Central Bank managed to pull one back when J Singh successfully converted a penalty corner immediately after the change of ends. But, Goan Sports did well to add another goal, once again through Naushad to regain their two goal advantage.
