Mumbai: Gideon D’souza, Dhruv Oza, Devansh Mehrotra and Varun Muzumdar booked a place in the semi finals of the under 15 boys group of the inaugural Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana Sub Junior District Badminton Challenge.
In the quarter finals, Gideon beat Vikhyat Bangera 21-15, 21-14 while, Dhruv overcame the stiff challenge of Siddharth Bhuta 21-15, 21-18. Devansh defeated Aditya Reddy 21-19, 21-9 whereas, Varun secured an easy 21-7, 21-8 win over Vedant Shah. In the mixed doubles U-15 category, Aayush Gupta along with Divya Hegde and the pair of Aditya Reddy and Mekhla Ambekar registered victories to go through to the next round.
Aayush and Divya won a close battle 30-28 against Aryan Ghosh and Mahek Nayak. The pair of Aryan and Mahek, both 10 year old school kids, won the hearts of everyone at the WCG badminton courts with their exceptional skills and net play, but, lost the match in the end. In the other match, Aditya and Mekhla easily won 30-15 against Dhruv Oza and Manya Avalani. In the boys under 13 group, Aryan Hosangadi, Varun Nagdev and Atharva Joshi won their respective matches to enter the next round. Aryan beat Ansh Mehta 30-21, Alhad Joshi tried his best, but, lost 25-30 to Varun while Atharva defeated Bharat Gulati 30-24.
