Mumbai: Nikhil Ghadge of Matunga Gymkhana rallied to an exciting 3-2 win in a Group H senior billiards round robin tie, in the Malabar Hill Club Maharashtra State Selection Billiards & Snooker Tournament on Tuesday. In the most absorbing match of the day, Ghadge dropped the opening frame even with a brilliant break of 54 to his credit in the 100-up, best-of-five frames contest, to trail 1-2 before forcing the decider against Rohan Jambusaria of Mandpeshwar Civic Federation, Borivali.
Ghadge won the crucial fourth frame while capitalising on small breaks to stay way ahead and used the same ploy in the decider to take the match away, in his opening group encounter.“It took time for me to get used to the conditions,” explained Ghadge. “That’s the reason I struggled initially. I was fortunate to find my rhythm in time.”
In the same group, Rajeev Sharma of the host club also snatched an exciting 3-1 win over formidable Sanjeev Bijlani of Park Club after dropping the second frame. Sharma earned the win the hard way with Bijlani coming up with a strong challenge from the start.
Rishabh Kumar of Bombay Gymkhana was the significant winner in Group G after prevailing over Central Railway’s Umesh Barwe 3-0, while Chandu Kansodaria of MCF beat Rohan Sakalkar of PYC, Pune by the same margin.
