London : Steven Gerrard marked his Liverpool return by scoring as his club came from behind to beat bottom club Leicester 3-1 in their Premier League clash on Tuesday.
The hosts led when Leonardo Ulloa’s shot hit the post, then bounced off the back of keeper Simon Mignolet’s head. But Liverpool equalised as Adam Lallana netted four minutes later after Rickie Lambert’s knock down, before Gerrard slotted in from a poor Wes Morgan clearance in the 54th minute.
Morgan was sent off for a foul on Lambert, then midfielder Jordan Henderson sealed a deserved win for Liverpool, The BBC reported.
Former Nottingham Forest defender Morgan can have few complaints after wrestling the Liverpool striker to the floor soon after gifting Gerrard his goal.
The Liverpool skipper, who is considering a new contract offer, had been left out of the starting line-up for Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Stoke, raising speculation about his Anfield future.
But Gerrard looked refreshed and reinvigorated as he led his team to their first league away win since 19 October, prompting Brendan Rodgers’s side to move up to eighth in the table, while Leicester remains bottom, two points from safety and without a win in nine top-flight games, the report added.
