Mumbai: Kishan Gangolli (KAR) retained title for the second time in a row winning the 10th AICFB National A Chess Championship for the blind which concluded at the Ganapat Rao Vartak Krida Bhavan,Vasai. From the 6th round it was a race between Olympiad Gold medalist Kishan Gangolli and World Bronze medal winner Darpan Inani (GUJ) and both amassed 10 points each in 13 rounds.
Kishan was declared the champion on the basis of tie break. The young talent Soundarya Kumar Pradhan (ORI) with 8 pts came third and senior player Krishna Udupa (KAR) with 7.5 points got the 4th place. The top four players are to represent India in the forth coming World Chess Championship for the Blind scheduled to be held in Greece in May this year.
In the last round, Kishan Gangolli with white pieces played Queen’s pawn opening against Soundarya. The latter could not handle the opening properly and allowed Kishan an easy win.Darpan Inani with white pieces played King’s pawn opening against Swapnil Shah (MAH). Darpan snatched a pawn in the middle game, skillfully diffused Swapnil’s all out attack and won the Rook and pawn ending.
