WIFA joins hand with thefootballmind.com

Mumbai: Football enthusiasts from Maharashtra can now get closely involved and inter-linked with the sport, thanks to an unique initiative by the Western Indian Football Association (WIFA) and The Football Mind, an exclusive football portal (www.thefootballmind.com). The Football Mind is a communication portal that will not only connect the entire football community, but will also help individual players, teams, clubs, associations and every person connected with the game to set up their profiles, pages and websites free of cost. “This (The Football Mind) networking concept will boost the communication for football and bring people from all districts closer. This will help develop and promote the game in Maharashtra,” said Souter Vaz, Hon. Secretary, Western India Football Association, during the launch on Tuesday evening.

Carmelites, Companeroes score easy wins

Mumbai: Carmelites SC and Companeroes SC, both scored identical 5-0 victories against Theresians SC and Bandra FC respectively in the Men’s Premier Division matches of the 11th BWFA football tournament. The hero of Carmelites victory was Azfar Noorani who scored a hat-trick and was well supported by Arif Qureshi and Akshay Saptoji, both scoring one each. Companeroes rode of the triple strikes from Akshay Kadu and one each from Aidan Gresseux and Jayesh Kamble to complete their charge to victory. Earlier, in a men’s First Division match, Sea View and Meghdoot FC were engaged in a goalless draw and Sporting Sensation and Baze FC played out a 1-1 draw. Results: Carmelites SC 5 (Azfar Noorani 3, Arif Qureshi, Akshay Saptoji) beat Theresians SC 0; Companeroes SC 5 (Akshay Kadu 3, Aidan Gresseux, Jayesh Kamble) beat Bandra FC 0; Chimbai SC 4 (Tyron Pereira 2, Floyd Dharmai, Zeeshan Tharia ) beat Athletico Bandra 2 (Kyle Pereira, Ben Fernandes).

Pritam scores winner for Atlanta FC

Mumbai: Atlanta FC dished out a good fighting display to put it across Hugh Fernandes Academy by a narrow 1-0 margin in a keenly contested Second Division match of the MDFA League – 2014-15, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Tuesday. Pritam Rana struck the all-important winning goal for Atlanta. The two other matches of the day turned out to be one-sided affairs with G.K.W. Rangers defeating Naseeb Reloaded by a convincing 4-0 margin and Classic FC outplaying Tata Power by five goals to nil. St. Dominic Savio, Wadala triumph

Mumbai: The third day of the of the 27th Inter Parish Floodlit Rink Football Tournament organized and conducted by the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana (WCG) at the WCG tennis courts turned out to be the most exciting one as three out of the four matches held in the men’s group were decided on the basis of closely fought penalty shootouts. St. Dominic Savio, Wadala with an accurate kick from Girik Khosala beat Holy Cross, Kurla 1-0 while St. Joseph, Mira Road maintained their cool in these shootouts to defeat Our Lady of Fatima, Sewri 3-2. Good Shepherd, Andheri with a goal from Marshall D’ Silva beat St. Anne’s, Bandra 1-0 in the penalty shootouts. St. Paul, Vakola with field goals from Justin Rodriguez and Nikhil convincingly overcame St. Stephens, Cumball Hill 2-0.

Lalchand Rajput XI suffer defeat

Mumbai: The Shalini Bhalekar under 23 tournament got underway on Tuesday. The tourney was inaugurated by Dr. Payyade Shetty. In the first match, after electing to bat first, Vengsarkar XI were all out for 249. Akash Parkar top scored with 82 runs. Hemant Buchade and Ashutosh Gharge took four wickets apiece for Chandrakant Pandit XI. In the other match, after being put into bat, Lalchand Rajput XI lost six wickets for 114 runs against Hemant Waingankar XI. Brief Scores – Match 1 – Vengsarkar XI 249 in 73.2 ovrs (Akhil Herwadkar 35, Akash Parkar 82, Hemant Buchade 4/89, Ashutosh Ghagre 4/46) vs Chandrakant Pandit XI 15/0 in 6 ovrs.
