Seems like Jos Buttler learnt some wicket-keeping skills from Dhoni during the recent IPL 2019 tournament. During the fifth ODI between England and Pakistan, Buttler dismissed Sarfaraz Ahmed with run-out in a fashion which was earlier done by MSD. Buttler used his leg to stop a late cut by Ahmed behind the stumps and run-out Ahmed as he tried to take a single. Have a look at the video.
The incident occurred in the 32nd over of Pakistan’s batting who were chasing 352 runs. At the score of 97, Ahmed tried to play a late cut behind the stumps on Moeen Ali’s ball. As soon as he placed the shot, Buttler lifted his right leg up in the air and stopped the ball. Then, he quickly collected the ball and dislodged the stumps well in time to run-out Ahmed. The Pakistani skipper could not enter the crease in time and was dismissed at 97, thereby, losing out on his century. This same tactic was used by MS Dhoni in IPL 2016 to dismiss Kings XI Punjab batsman Manan Vohra. Dhoni was part of Rising Pune Supergiants in that edition of IPL.
Taking about the match, England post 351-9 on board while batting first at Headingley. Pakistan played well in the second innings but remained short of 54 runs in the end, getting all-out for 297 in 46.5 overs. With the victory, England whitewashed Pakistan in five match ODI series after winning four matches. The first ODI was washed out due to rain.
