Mumbai : Simran Singhi clinched titles in the U-13 as well as the U-15 girls singles group at the inaugural Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana Sub Junior District Badminton Challenge.
Dhruv Oza won the championship in the boys U-13 group. Simran, a national champ showed her class defeating Chaitra Shetty 21-5, 21-9 in the U -13 final and then she secured an easy 21-7, 21-8 win over Deeksha Hardasani in the U-15 final. Chaitra and Deeksha tried their best, but Simran was in top form in both the battles. Her overall game that included powerful smashes and delicate drop shots enthralled everyone at the WCG badminton court.
The boys under 13 final was a thrilling encounter where Dhruv fought back hard after being one game down to win the match and the title. Dhruv, who practises at Khar Gymkhana looked determined and focused throughout the match. The loss in the first game did not affect him at all. He beat Vikyath Bangera 18-21, 21-12, 21-16 in a closely fought finale.
In the boys under 15 final, Gideon D’souza will clash with Varun Muzumdar whereas, in the mixed doubles finals, the pair of Simran Singhi and Gideon D’souza will fight against Vikyath Bangera and Sakshi Shetty.
