Mumbai : Don Bosco High School, Matunga had a field day winning the boys’ under-10 and under-12 titles in the inaugural edition of the MDFA presents Mumbai FC ‘Masters League’ which was played at the Andheri Sports Complex.

In the boys’ U-10 final, Don Bosco, Matunga ‘A’ beat their second string Don Bosco, Matunga  ‘B’ 1-0. Striker Meeth scored the lone goal to take their team to victory.

Later in the boys’ U-12 category Don Bosco, Matunga  beat Kalina Youngster Sports Foundation by a convincing 5-1 margin. Vedant was in terrific scoring form slamming in four goals while teammate Harsh chipped in with one to complete the margin of victory. Lalit scored the lone consolation goal for the losers.

Earlier in the boys U-8 contest, St. Paul’s, Dadar prevailed over Millat FC by a 2-0 margin to claim the top honours. Parth and Vedant scored a goal each for the winning schoolboys.

Meanwhile in the girl’s U-14 final, Christ Academy cashed in on Nidhi Shetty’s twin striker to blank FCM Khiladi Connect 3-0. Ishita scored the other goal to seal the Academy girl’s victory.

The winners were presented with Trophies and will get an opportunity for an exclusively training stint with the Mumbai Football Club under the guidance of their reputed coaches. The winning teams also received gifts from Nivia and the ‘Quickperks Mumbai FC Fan Club’ card, which is the official season ticket for all the home games of Mumbai FC and also dually as a discount  card with discounts at over 80 brand at more than 300 outlets.

The inaugural season of the Masters League received a huge response. A total of 1746 kids participated in the month long tournament. With teams from over 40 schools and 30 academies battled it out for the top honours.

Teams, from Colaba, Vasai, Kalyan, Thane, Navi Mumbai and a few teams from even Pune took part in this month long football extravaganza. The main aim of tournament was to scout & develop talent by imparting scientific and age specific football training. But the ultimate goal of Masters League is to develop players for club & country in a long run and give kids from all different social economic background equal opportunities. The initial rounds were played at Andheri Sports Complex, Saint Xaviers Ground, Parel & Kick Football Turf, Powai.
