The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday evening announced India's 15-member squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand, starting June 18.
India had travelled to England with a 20-man extended squad. Virat Kohli will lead the team against New Zealand in Southampton while Ajinkya Rahane will serve as his vice-captain.
While the annonced squad does not surprise many, India management have taken a decisive call by leaving out KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwral and Shardul Thakur, who was marked as the fast-bowling all-rounder after Hardik Pandya failed to make the cut for the England tour. Hanuma Vihari will likely play in the lower middle-order. In the pace department, India have shown their faith in Mohammed Siraj and Senior pacer Umesh Yadav.
India have made it quite clear that Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who opened for them in Australia, will be facing the new Dukes ball in Southampton as they haven't named either Mayank or KL Rahul.
India's initial 20-member squad and the final squad: Virat Kohli (C), Ajinkya Rahane (VC), Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill,
Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (WK), R. Ashwin, R. Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav, KL Rahul, W Saha (WK)
