As World Cup 2019 is set to follow IPL 2019, there have been discussions over the workload on players. IPL 2019 is a tough and competitive leagues and back-to-back matches puts a lot of pressure and workload on teams. Indian selectors would also be worried about some crucial World Cup players. Bumrah, one of the fixed players for World Cup 2019 squad, also comes in this category.
Bumrah plays for Mumbai Indians and it is expected that he may have a lot of workload in this team’s journey in IPL 2019. But Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene thinks otherwise and feels that selectors should be less worried over the Indian pacer’s workload.
“The workload needs to be managed but at the same time they need to play good competitive cricket. I think India has managed their players well over the years giving them breaks. I think your best players need to play. They can’t stay at home and turn up and perform. It’s about that fine balance and as long as we can manage that, they will be fine,” Jayawardene told India Today.
Mahela also feels that Bumrah is a crucial part of Mumbai with his wicket-taking ability. “He is always an attacking option with his wicket-taking ability. In the death overs, he has all the skills and he backs himself to do that. He is definitely a game changer,” Jayawardene added.
