Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo on Friday broke the record for the most goals scored in a single season for Juventus.
Ronaldo broke the 95-year-old record when he hit his 36th goal for the season during the Champions League game
The Portuguese great scored both goals during Juventus’ Champions League bout against Lyon – one goal was scored in the 43rd minute, while the other in the 60th minute. However, his heroics weren’t enough as Lyon went ahead into the quarter finals on away goals.
Lyon had scored in the 12th minute during Friday’s match through a contentious penalty, awarded for a foul by Rodrigo Bentancur. It was converted by Memphis Depay.
Meanwhile, Manchester City knocked out Ronaldo’s former club Real Madrid to reach the final eight as well. City that saw its return to the Champions’ League after months of speculation over a potential ban from playing, defeated the La Liga title winners 2-1. R Sterling scored in the 9th minute, while Gabriel Jesus scored in the 68th minute. For Real Madrid, Karim Benzama equalised in the 28th minute, before Jesus scored the decisive goal.
