Tamil Nadu CM  Jayalalithaa feted Carlsen handing over the prize money to him along with a gold plated trophy and a medal in Chennai.

Chennai: World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway, who beat Viswanathan Anand in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2013 at Chennai last weekend got richer by Rs 9.9 crore. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday feted Carlsen handing over the prize money to him along with a gold-plated trophy and a gold medal at a star hotel in Chennai. The design for the trophy, incidentally, was designed chosen by Jayalalithaa, who is a chess lover.

She also presented him with an olive garland, specially brought from the scene Nilgiris. Though Anand disappointed the home crowd, he nonetheless got to take home a cash reward of Rs 6.03 crore and a silver trophy which the Chief Minister presented him. Separately, FIDE president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov presented gold and silver medals to Carlsen and Anand respectively.
