Mumbai : Vibgyor, Goregaon won the girls’ Under-13 and boys’ Under-11 titles, while Don Bosco ‘A’ won the boys’ Under-13 and Divine Child the girls’ Under-11 titles, in the 2nd Don Bosco Inter School Basketball Championship. Vibgyor, who were in line for a triple crown, beat St. Anthony’s, Chembur 27-13 in the girls’ Under-13 final, while the boys Under-11 team combined brilliantly and were rewarded for accuracy while overcoming Don Bosco ‘A’ 31-19 in an exciting final.
Don Bosco ‘A’ denied Vibgyor a third title following a convincing 39-18 win, after the Goregaon school got off to a flying start with a 9-4 advantage at the end of the first quarter and the hosts recovered to draw level at 11-11 at half-time. Vibgyor paid the price for frittering away their scoring opportunities and lost their way in the second half as Bosco dominated with the lanky Sankalp keeping the scoreboard ticking at regular intervals to top score with 16 points. Divine Child, Andheri endured a strong first-half challenge before prevailing over Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania, Thane 28-16, after the teams were locked 8-8 at half-time as most promising player and consistent scorer Danica once again top scored with 21 points for the winners. Don Bosco principal Fr. Bernard was the chief guest and presented the prizes.
