London : Barcelona claimed a thrilling 5-4 win over Sevilla to lift the UEFA Super Cup for a record-equalling fifth time, thanks to an extra-time winner by Pedro.
Ever Banega gave Europa League winners Sevilla the early advantage just three minutes into the contest. Barca came back strongly as Lionel Messi scored two brilliant free-kicks before Rafinha and Luis Suarez consolidated to give the La Liga champions a commanding 4-1 lead, the BBC reported. However, Sevilla produced a remarkable turnaround as they restored parity and forced extra time after Jose Antonio Reyes, Kevin Gameiro and Yevhen Konoplyanka scored for their side. Subsequently, Barca had the last laugh after Pedro struck a late winner in the 115th minute to give his side the first success in the competition since 2011.
