Mumbai: Top seed Aryaman Adik and Chaitanya Shah registered impressive wins to advance to the boys’ Under-15 quarter-finals, in the 70th CCI-Western India Open Squash Tournament at the Cricket Club of India on Tuesday. On a day when Bombay boys dominated, Otters Club lad Adik, runner-up in the recently concluded Sub Junior and Junior Nationals at Indore, halted talented Rahil Pires of Goa with 11-8, 11-8, 11-6 win in a tight contest.

Pires, desperate to breach the barrier of established names in his category, did well right through and ran the favourite close in all three sets before crucial winners by Adik proved decisive. In contrast Bombay Gymkhana’s Shah, also one of Maharashtra’s top juniors, eased past Ancheet Desai of Goa in straight sets to set up a quarter-final with compatriot Siddhant Iyer.

The other local lads, Dev Vazirani of Khar Gymkhana and Aryan Parikh of Matunga Gymkhaha, will face each other in a mouth-watering clash.

Vedant Baheti of MP and Pranav Bassi of Delhi rolled on and were joined in the quarter-finals by boys’ under-17 top seed Aishwarya Singh and Sandeep Paswan of Jindal, Ranjit Singh of UP and Maharashtra’s Yohann Surti of Willingdon Sports Club.
