London: Arsenal trounced struggling Aston Villa 5-0 at the Emirates on Sunday to overtake Tottenham Hotspur in the fifth spot and edge closer to the top four in the Premier League table. Forward Oliver Giroud put Arsenal ahead in the eighth minute with a clinical finish from a Mesut Ozil pass before the attacking midfielder himself consolidated the lead to make it 2-0.
Subsequently, Theo Walcott fired home a stunner before Santi Cazorla gave Arsenal an unassailable lead through a well-worked penalty finish in the 75th minute. Moreover, teenage defender scored first goal of his professional football career as he made it 5-0 for Arsenal from 30 yards out.
In light of team’s performance, manager Arsene Wenger said that it was positive as they kept a clean sheet, adding that they know they can score goals and they needed to be patient as Aston tried to stop them going forward, the BBC reported. With the win, Arsenal stayed fifth but has levelled with Southampton on 42 points.
