Mumbai: Anju Bobby George, Long Jump gold medalist at the IAAF World Athletics in Monte Carlo 2005 and bronze medalist at the 2003 IAAF World Championships will be the event ambassador for the 4th National Level Vasai Virar Mayor’s Marathon, to be flagged off from Virar on Sunday, December 21, 2014.
Anju Bobby George will join ‘Face of the Event’ Milind Soman and other Bollywood and television stars to cheer participants running in the various race categories.
Around 600 Full Marathoners will take the starter’s flag at 6.00 am from New Viva College, Virar (W), while 4000 plus participants will run the half marathon, to be flagged off in the backdrop of the historic Bassein Fort in Vasai. The newly introduced 11 KM trun for amateurs will see around 1000 participants, whole the lower age group categories will see a total of around 8000 participants.
Online and physical registrations for the event will close at 6.00 pm on December 15.
Water stations with Q Shop as the Water Partner, Energy Drink stations, medical stations, besides refreshment packs for all participants are the facilities being provided to the participants.
Anju Bobby George joins a long line of distinguished sports persons who have graced the event over the years, among them, P T Usha, Shiny Wilson, Dhanraj Pillay, Yuvaraj Valmiki, Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt, to name a few.
