Mumbai : Former champions and last season’s runners-up Air India carved out a narrow 1-0 win against PIFA Colaba in a quarter-final match, of the MDFA RCF-Nadkarni Cup knockout football tournament – 2014, organised by RCF and played at their ground, Chembur on Monday evening.
Striker Sagar Chile netted the all-important winning goal for Air India in the 70th minute to book their berth in the semi-finals. Earlier, Mumbai Customs had things much their own way as they romped to a facile 5-1 win against G.M. Sports in another quarter-final encounter.
Dashing forward Mathias Coutinho starred for Customs scoring two goals, while Francisco Salin, Sagar Bedekar and Deepak Irmali struck once each to complete the winning tally. Tushar Poojary netted the lone goal for the losing side.
Customs will meet Air India in Wednesday’s semi-final. Results – quarter-finals: Mumbai Customs 5 (Mathias Coutinho 2, Francisco Salin, Sagar Bedekar, Deepak Irmali) beat G.M. Sports 1 (Tushar Poojary). Air India 1 (Sagar Chile) beat PIFA Colaba.
