Mumbai: Star aqua queen Aditi Dhumatkar and Jason Smith, both from Khar Gymkhana led the record-breaking spree, by striking a brace each on the opening day of the 30th Otters Club Open Swimming and Diving Gala, at their swimming pool at Bandra.
Overall eight new marks were set with hosts could figure in just one, though their swimmers won five golds. Gracerful Aditi, though won the 200m freestyle with remarkable ease, her win in the 100m backstroke was a close affair. For her Khar Gymkhana teammate Avantika Chavan took a quick start and in fact was leading in the first lap before Aditi outpaced her to win the event. However, both Aditi and Avantika rewrote broke the earlier record of 2011 set by Aditi herself. Surprisingly, the other Khar Gymkhana stalwart Rujuta Bhatt, who finished behind both Aditi and Avantika in both the events, was not her usual self.
But there was no stopping Jason. His wins in the 100m back stroke as well as 200m individual medley in the boys under-15 was quite dominant as he beat his rivals by almost 10 metres in both the events.
For the hosts, though their swimmer Arman Sikka figured among the record-breakers, they had a good haul of five golds, including one record set by Arman in the boys under-0 100m indivudla medley event. Other golds were claimed by Muskan Tolani (girls under-13, 200 m Individual medley), Akanksha Vora (girls under-15 freestyle), Vedant Rao (men, 100m backstroke).
