The number of wild animals is significant in the mountainous areas of rural Nashik. However, due to the drying up of natural water sources, the wandering of wild animals for drinking water has increased in the summer. Due to this, incidents of attacks on them are frequent. Against this backdrop, the Forest Department has taken a constructive step and has started pouring water into artificial water bodies with the help of tankers. This measure is providing great relief to wildlife.
The areas of Lodhai Mata Dongar, Dhodambai, Goharan, Parasul, Rajderwadi, Dighavad, Raipur, Kanadgaon, Kundalgaon and Erandgaon in the Chandwad and Vadnerbhairav areas are home to sparrows, peacocks, rabbits, foxes, wolves, cats, monkeys, leopards and hyenas. The intense heat of summer is currently being felt, and the temperature has increased significantly. Due to this, the natural water sources in the forest have completely dried up. As a result, wildlife has to wander to the outskirts of the village for water. Due to this, attacks by stray dogs have increased, and the issue of the safety of animals like deer, rabbits and peacocks has become serious.
Keeping this situation in mind, the forest department has started immediate measures. The work of pouring water through tankers in natural and artificial water bodies in the forest has started. Also, in places where artificial water bodies are not available, drinking water has been arranged for wildlife using cement pots, drums, taps and plastic pots. This will help stop the wandering of animals.
"There are a large number of peacocks and deer in the Chandwad forest area. There was a shortage of water in this area. Therefore, under the guidance of seniors, drinking water has been arranged for wildlife and birds in this area. Special care is being taken during summer," said Prakash Suryavanshi, Forester, Chandwad.
