Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is facing an acute water scarcity at the advent of the summer due to the irregular water supply. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation’s (CSMC) water timetable has been hampered due to frequent pipeline leakages.
On Monday, the air valve of the 1200 mm diameter water pipeline leaked after being struck by a truck at around 8 pm. The administration immediately began repair work at around 11 pm. The repairs were completed after 12 hours, around 11 am on Tuesday. However, the water supply to the city was stopped for 12 hours, resulting in a water crisis.
On the other hand, the alternate 900 mm diameter water pipeline has been closed for the past four days. As a result, there was a water deficit of around 20 MLD. Due to these conditions, the air valve leaked on Monday, causing the entire water supply timetable to collapse. Several localities did not receive water on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Water from the leaked air valve entered a company, causing one of its plants to be closed. The CSMC engineers then immediately stopped the water supply from Jayakwadi and initiated the repair work.
After the air valve was repaired, one pump was started from Jayakwadi after a 12-hour delay. The disruption in water supply has further collapsed the water timetable.
