In a bid to curb illegal businesses and enhance citizen participation in maintaining law and order, the Pune Rural Police have launched the "WhatsApp Daksh System."

The administration has introduced a WhatsApp number — 9922892100 — for the citizens to connect directly to the police on WhatsApp.

Pankaj Deshmukh, Superintendent of Pune Rural Police, expressed, "Many citizens are either hesitant or unable to physically visit police stations to file complaints. This system has been developed to curb illegal activity in the rural jurisdiction. Dedicated staff have been trained to handle the cases. The identity of the informer will not be disclosed at any cost. The app has been made in the hope that common people participate and directly give information about illegal activity in their area, accordingly, action will be taken."

How to use and send the tip to the police

Informers can simply save the number and initiate a conversation by sending "Hi" on WhatsApp. The system is automated and responds with step-by-step options to guide users through the complaint process — all in Marathi for ease of use.

Complainants can share detailed information including the location, name of the person involved, type of illegal activity, and even supporting photos.

Importantly, the identity of the complainant, including their name and contact number, will be kept completely confidential.
