Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit Pimpri-Chinchwad on April 18 to unveil the Chapekar Bandhu Memorial. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Mahesh Landge took to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday and provided this information.
The Bhosari MLA said a meeting was held to create an outline for the programme and make all its arrangements to ensure its success. He added that Maval MP Shrirang Barne, NCP MLA and Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode, BJP MLC Uma Khapre, BJP Pimpri-Chinchwad Chief Shatrughna Kate, PCMC Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh and Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil were present for the discussion.
"All aspects of the programme planning were discussed in detail in this meeting. It was expressed that the event, which will be attended by the Prime Minister, will be memorable with the spontaneous participation of the citizens," Landge further said.
Who were the Chapekar Brothers?
The Chapekar brothers – Damodar, Balkrishna and Vasudev – were Indian revolutionaries who were hanged for their role in the assassination of Plague Commissioner Walter C. Rand and his military escort, Lt. Charles E. Ayerst, in Pune on June 22, 1897.

Rand, an Indian Civil Service officer, headed the Special Plague Committee, which oversaw the measures to tackle the plague epidemic in Pune. But the high-handedness of the British authorities and soldiers while framing and enforcing anti-plague measures caused public fury, leading to Rand’s assassination.
They lived at Chapekar Wada in Chinchwadgaon, which has now been converted into a museum.
