Multiple states including Delhi, Jharkhand, Kolkata, and Haryana received some respite from the soaring heat on Friday due to rainfall. North-eastern states witnessed heavy rains.
The India Meteorological Department said that rainfall may continue over northwest, central, and western parts of the country for the next five-six days. Isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya are likely to get extremely heavy rainfall today, while Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal are likely to get heavy rains till Sunday.
On Thursday, the weather agency predicted 'normal' rainfall over the country at 96-104% of long period average in July.
