Mira Road : A picnic turned into a tragedy for a group of 15 youths from Andheri when one of them drowned in the Chena creek along the Ghodbunder Road in Kashimira on Sunday evening.
According to the police, the revellers who had planned a one-day picnic at Chena creek apparently ventured into the waters. However, one of them, identified as Sachin Patil (29), could not gauge the depth and drowned after being swept away by the strong currents. Patil was dragged out from the waters by his colleagues and was rushed to the Bhakti Vedanta Hospital in Mira Road where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Even as venturing into the creek waters is dangerous all year round, the water-level remains high in the rainy seasons. “A case of accidental death has been registered in this connection,” said police inspector (crime) Rajendra Kamble.
