Mumbai : The Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh (WRMS) observed ‘black day’ on Friday to protest against the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) report which had stopped all allowances for railway employees.

Their demands include refixing of their wages to Rs 26,000 and refixing of all pay scales by multiplying 3.7 factor.

Further, their demands include payment of all allowances as per existing percentage, reduce difference between minimum and maximum pay as 1:8.

Western Railway workers stated that the 7th CPC has issued a retrograde report and therefore National Federation of Indian Railways has demanded Rs 26,000 as minimum salary linking it with the price index and inflation in the country.

“The report is illogical and the employees are unhappy with it and therefore we are protesting by wearing black badges for our rights. The report has stopped all our allowances which have been paid in the past 50 years. This is not justified and if our demands are not met then soon we will be forced to go on a strike,” said a senior officer from WRMS.

The 7th CPC, which submitted its report to the government on November 19, has proposed an increase of 23.55% in the pay (salary and allowances) of central government employees and similar increase in pensions, which will become effective from January 1, 2016. The additional payout is projected to be Rs 1.02 lakh crore in FY17, or 0.65% of the GDP.
