Mumbai : A week-long awareness drive to increase the number of ATVM users was kick started by the Western Railway (WR) on Wednesday. As part of the week-long drive, awareness classes will be held in three colleges along with radio jingles and stalls will be set up across 10 major railway stations to make people aware.
The aim of the campaign is to reduce the number of people standing at the booking offices and increase the ATVM users, which merely contributes to 10 percent of the total ticket sale in Mumbai. A survey was conducted by WR officials, which highlighted that most commuters were under the impression that documents were required for the purchase of smart cards. Also, they were not aware of the 5 percent discount given to commuters on issuing tickets through ATVMs.
Following the survey it was decided to start a campaign to make people aware of the ATVM facility. During the first day of the campaign, a total of 90 smart cards were sold at the stalls set up at Andheri and Churchgate stations.
Chief PRO of WR, Sharat Chandrayan, said, “We are harping on the psychology of the commuters as they need to realise that by using the smart cards they will not only get the discount but also there won’t be any need to stand in the queue.”
