Mumbai : Despite the railway officials having a tough time over resolving a age-old dispute over a small path that connects to a graveyard, General Manager S K Sood on Monday gave yet another deadline.
During a press conference with Member of Parliament Gopal Shetty following the inauguration of a booking office at Andheri, Sood said, “We are working on resolving the issue. We will be able to commission the line in the next 10 days.”
The 5th line, which connects Mumbai to Borivali once commissioned will be utilised by long-distance trains, is stuck as locals are opposing the project. The small path which connects the residential colonies to a burial ground will be closed for the line to be functional.
The residents will then have to take a longer route to reach the burial ground. Sood further added that they were also planning to construct a Foot Over Bridge (FOB) for the convenience of the local residents. While MP Gopal Shetty assured that he will also help the railways in getting the support of the local residents. The 5th line was to be inaugurated on Monday in the presence of Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu but neither could Prabhu come for the event nor were the railways successful in convincing the locals. The 5th line once completed will also about 25 outstation train to run on it instead of using the fast corridor. This will also the chance to WR to run at least another 10 more local services.
