Mumbai : Finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar announced formation of a working group of secretaries for strict implementation of the educational fee concessions given by the State government here on Thursday. The step is aimed at evolving more transparent and effective system, he said.

Government has announced various scholarships, fellowships and educational concessions. The provisions are implemented by various departments like school education department, higher and technical education department, ministry for social justice, tribal development department etc. “We plan to review these concessions and provisions to decide on some common criteria for qualification. Also we want to set criteria for which courses should be covered under such schemes,” Mungantiwar said and added that a working group under principal secretary (financial reforms) has been formed to do the review.

“The decision to form the working group is in line with the white paper on state’s economy that was released during the budget session, wherein we had stressed on the need for an authority to regulate educational fees,” Mungantiwar said.

The working group includes secretaries from the medical education, social justice, higher and technical education and school education department. They would decide on criteria for concessions in educational fees and scholarships, quality norms for colleges etc. and evolve a transparent and effective system, the minister said.
