Mumbai : The work of Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro line 3 is likely to start from September end as the contracts for civil works will be awarded by then, said Ashwini Bhide, managing director of the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC).

Bhide was present at the launch of a new logo of Metro Line 3 along with commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA). The work for rehabilitation of the affected people due to construction of the 32.5 km long corridor will also be started soon.

Speaking on the rehabilitation of the project affected people (PAP), Bhide informed that the consultant for the project is likely to be appointed by the end of this month. Metro Line 3 will be the longest corridor connecting South Mumbai to the Western suburbs.

After tendering for the consultant for PAP has been finalised, the relocation of affected people will be started in the next four months. The construction work is expected to be started by December end or January 2016. Due to the project a total of 737 families living in Kalbadevi and Girgaon will be affected and have been assured to get a minimum of 40 sq ft area.

Talking on the most controversial factor of the Aarey Milk Colony car depot, MMRDA commissioner UPS Madan cleared that reports for the projects were awaited and there were seven sites being studied for it while the final call will be taken by the State government.

The seven sites which are under consideration include Kalina University Campus, BKC, Kanjurmarg, MBPT Land, Dharavi, Mahalaxmi Race Course and Reclamation in the sea at Backbay. Until now MMRC has received 31 bids from nine consortiums for the seven packages and has declared a deadline of 2019 for completion of Metro-3.
