Yavatmal: In a shocking incident, liquor smugglers assaulted six women from the Dhakori village of Yavatmal district, who caught them smuggling liquor on Friday. A woman sustained serious head injuries. As there is prohibition in Chandrapur, many incidents of illicit sale of liquor have been reported. When a few women learnt that a new batch of liquor was being smuggled through their village, they decided to catch the bootleggers.
Around 9 pm, the women caught them. While going to Shirpur police station, the accused began assaulting the women. To spread panic, they also set ablaze their motorcycle. The matter was reported to police, who reached the spot immediately. However, the accused began to pelting stones at police, causing the cops to abandon their van and run. The accused then toppled the van. A police team then reached Kurai village to arrest the accused.
