Mumbai: An unidentified woman’s severed head was found in an open plot at Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday evening. The head was found in a partially charred state. The police have initiated a search operation to locate the other half of the body. The Rabale police have registered a case of murder against unknown persons.

According to the police, the severed head was found by locals of a residential complex at 5.30 pm when they were out on an evening walk. A police officer said, “Prima facie it seems the woman was killed somewhere else, following which her body was cut in pieces.

We suspect that the killer tried to burn the severed head at the open plot and must have fled before it was burnt completely.”Rabale police are searching the neighbouring area, which is along the Palm Beach road and is surrounded by thick forests and a river.

Meanwhile, police are also checking the missing persons reports filed recently, matching the description of the deceased woman. “Since the open ground is visited by many for morning and evening walks, along with youth who play cricket here, the list of suspects is too big,” said an officer.
