Loopholes in rape complainant’s statement, accused say  they are innocent

Mumbai : A 34-year-old woman working at a call centre in Bhayandar was allegedly gang aped by two of her acquaintances when they gave her a lift in their Innova at Dharavi to drop her at Bandra. The incident occurred on July 22 at 10.15 pm, and a complaint was filed after midnight that day.

The woman, who was dropped off a little before the Mahim T-junction, approached two constables of the Dharavi police who were patrolling the area. One of them, Lala (35) is a garment seller in Mira Road while the other is said to be a reporter.

The two were picked up by the police the next day and interrogated.

However, the accused say that they are innocent and didn’t commit the rape. According to sources, there are many loopholes in the woman’s statement too.

“The distance for which she was in the Innova, that is from Khemkar Chowk to before Mahim T-junction, can be covered within five minutes. How can she be raped in such a short time? In addition, she doesn’t even have any external injuries. And the constables patrolling the area didn’t notice anything amiss in the time in which she is alleging the rape happened,” said a source from the police.

The police are now looking at the Call Detail Records of the three to determine their locations at the time of the supposed incident. In addition, CCTV footage of Mira Road and Dharavi will also be checked.
