White paper on city’s transportation problem likely

Mumbai : To understand the transportation problems of the city, Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) will be coming out with a ‘White Paper’, stated Railway Miniter Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday. There a need to analyse transportation problems faced by the city only after which a solution to these problems can be thought off, he said.

Prabhu, while addressing the press conference, said, “Before we publish the document we will also try to get solutions. As these problems are being faced by the citizens they can also be asked for suggesting solutions. By the end of July we will present white paper to the citizens.”

After the successful shift from the 1,500 volts Direct Current (DC) to 25,000 volts Alternating Current (AC) on Central Railway (CR), Prabhu dedicated the conversion to commuters and also congratulated railway officials on completion of the task. He also emphasised on the need for speedy implementation of projects which have been sanctioned under MUTP-III.

Prabhu said, “I have spoken to the officials from the World Bank and appealed them to clear funds as soon as possible.”

Prabhat Sahai, managing director of MRVC, said, “The MRVC will ask Mumbaikars to give their suggestions through MRVC website before publishing the white paper.”

‘Need support from State to develop rail projects’

 “Mumbai has unique problems and there is a need to come up with out of the box solutions,’ said Railway Minister Suresh Pra-bhu while talking on the need to have an integrated transpor-tation solution. He emphasised on the need of co-operation from the State government and other local government bodies for infrastructure development of railways in the state.

They railway is also seeking cooperation from local bodies like the BMC for development of its projects. Prabhu said, “I have spoken to Uddhav Thackeray to involve the municipal corporation for development of railway stations and he has assured of his cooperation.”

Prabhu will also be meeting Chief Minister (CM) along with Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari at the end of this month to discuss development of railway projects and seeking state’s support and get the required funding for projects. Prabhu said, “No projects can be completed without support from the State government. We will be meeting the CM to discuss the pending projects.”

The railways are also working out the details of establish a separate agency which will have stake from the State government. Prabhu said, “We have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in some states and are working out the final details.”
