Aurangabad : Water scarcity in Marathwada region continues to aggravate with 287 villagers seeking the same by way of 206 tankers.

According to information from the Crisis Management Department of the Divisional Commissionerate, 82 tankers have been pressed into service in Aurangabad district while only two tankers are there for Jalna district, the worst drought-affected district in the region. Beed comes next to Aurangabad with 73 tankers and Osmanabad third with 49 tankers.

Marathwada had an average rainfall from July to October in 2013. Therefore, nobody had anticipated such a severe drought this year. The situation is forcing people of one village to bring water from another.

To provide relief to the people, the administration is pressing tankers into service and acquiring wells in several villages.

In Aurangabad district, 16 government and 66 private tankers are supplying water to 55 villages.       (FPJ)
