May contest as independents if told to forego their wards
Palghar : Around 20 odd workers from the BJP Vasai taluka unit, planning to contest the municipal corporation election, have requested their senior party leaders to go solo during the upcoming election to be held anytime this month end in Vasai – Virar, unless there is an equal distribution of seats.
Sources also confirm that these workers could contest this election as Independents even if there is a BJP-Shiv Sena alliance which might further threaten their wards which they have converted into their stronghold by religiously working over the last 2 years.
These workers have covered the Vasai east coast which comprises of important locations like Pelhar, Santosh Bhavan, Sativili, Waliv, Gokhiware.
In the last 2 years BJP workers has been very aggressive in Vasai Virar and have inaugurated around 18 party offices to establish themselves and are trying to give a strong opposition to the ruling party under the leadership of Kedarnath Mhatre, who has kept the Vasai Taluka BJP united along with Vishal Joshi who is the BJP secretary of Vasai Taluka.
While speaking to FPJ, Joshi said, “We have worked very hard in the last 2 years and have created a strong vote base in Vasai east coast. In case of an alliance we might have to forego any of these seats which we wouldn’t want and hence we will contest as independents in such a scenario. We have also spoken to senior party leaders who have assured us their support.”
Currently, BJP has only 1 corporator in the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) and preparations are aggressively on to increase the number ten-folds.
