Mumbai : Govind Rathod, the commissioner of Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVMC), is a man known for his stubbornness when it comes to cleanliness. Frequent visitors to the civic body have been surprised to see open spaces within the VVMC complex, created by dumping the dust-gathering files in a room in the open, and a sweeper sweeping the staircase.
The commissioner has now gone ahead and released a Whatsapp number to the people of Vasai-Virar wherein they can click images of accumulated garbage and dierctly upload it and also track their complaints and give feedback.
In the last six days, since its launch, this number has been flooded with hundreds of images which the civic body is busy taking care off.
Rathod also has several plans to maintain cleanliness of footpaths. He said he would first demolish the footpath space encroached by eateries, which will force the citizens to use them.
All the major projects by clean-up marshalls, cleanliness contractors etc. are set for a major revamp, he said. He has also decided to clean the entry points to Vasai and has planned sequential painting and plantation among other activities.
He also said illegal buildings will be demolished despite political pressure and he would soon start walking the streets to check the same.
