New rota system for BEST staff is exhausting
This is in connection with the BEST drivers having a problem with the new rota system. All I want to ask the BEST management is to keep in mind public safety. The new system seems to have shaken up the BEST staff, especially drivers and conductors. If they are made to work for long hours, they will not be able to concentrate on their job. So kindly rethink this new system.
Gracy Abreo, Matunga Rd Stn (East)
overrun with hawkers
A Supreme Court ruling says there should be no encroachment on government premises or near the railway station, but Matunga Road Station(East),there are lots of hawkers on the railway premises. The station master has not taken any action, despite several complaints. Will a higher railway authority like the divisional railway manager look into the matter and come to the rescue of the public?
The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation operates intercity buses within Bhayandar and Mira Road. Of late these services have become pathetic to say the least. They never follow the schedule, the frequency of buses is also erratic and on top of it all, they are badly maintained. Most of the bus drivers and conductors are hired on contract basis and their wages are not paid on time, as a result of which there is a vast turnover of drivers and conductors. MBMC must take steps to solve this problem, it would ease the lives of those travelling by public transport regularly.

Shine some light
on Diva Station
Diva Junction is an important station, but it is also the most neglected station on Central Railway. There are six platforms here, of which Platforms 1 and 2 are used for local trains, while the other four are used for mail and express trains. These four platforms are in a pathetic condition. Tiles are broken, there is no proper lighting, food stalls or toilets or even proper sitting arrangements here. The sole functional toilet is located on Platform 1. Many outstation trains stop at this station. Over the years, this station has only seen increasing passenger traffic, but basic amenities seem to get zero attention. Will CR give attention to these matters urgently?
It is cumbersome for passengers coming from the CST-side to alight at Thane Railway Station in the evening peak hours. Commuters do not allow passengers to alight first and madly rush to board, distressing senior citizens and others alike. Thane Station is always a crowded location, with passengers coming in from Panvel/Vashi and other areas. Most express trains halt here too. To ease the plight of passengers, shouldn’t there be at least shuttle services from Thane–Kalyan/Ambarnath introduced? Will the railway administration explore the possibility of shuttle services in evening rush hours?
