Mumbai : Devgan Singh (40) who had sustained severe burns in the Vikhroli cylinder blast breathed his last at Sion Hospital on Monday night. The doctors stated that his condition deteriorated owing to serious head injury and burns. Singh had sustained head injuries while trying to save those trapped in the fire.
Meanwhile, three other victims Sapna Chauhan (13), Vimal Chauhan (40) and Santosh Shinde (31) who had sustained around 60-80% burns are battling for their life and are on ventilator support at Kasturba Hospital. “For any person who sustains more than 60% burns, it is a life or death situation for them as the serious burn injuries make them prone to infections and other diseases. We are trying our level best to save them and their condition is being closely monitored,” said a doctor from Kasturba Hospital.
The relatives of Chauhan’s family state that they were suggested by the doctors to take the victims to Airoli Burns Centre, however, the high treatment costs prevented them from doing so. “We learnt that as compared to Airoli, the cost of a civic-run hospital is less and therefore we settled for Kasturba hospital. We are just praying that they respond to the treatment and get discharged as soon as possible,” said a relative.
