Mumbai : Producer of actor Salman Khan’s 2010 film Veer, Vijay Galani, has filed a Rs 250 crore defamation case against the actor.
Sources say that in 2008, Salman had approached Galani to produce the film Veer, and Galani had given Salman a signing amount of Rs 10 crore. A contract had been drawn up between Galani, Salman and Eros International, which mentioned that after the release of the film, once the cost of the film was recovered, Salman would be given an overflow of Rs 15 crore.
However, once the film hit the screens, it didn’t manage to do well at the box office. Three months after the release, Salman had asked Galani for a copy of their earlier agreement. Once Galani sent it to Khan, the latter had said that he wasn’t okay with the terms of the agreement, and approached the Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA), who ruled in Galani’s favour.
Thereafter, Salman moved the Federation of Western India Cine Association, which unilaterally issued a motion of non-cooperation against Galani. Following the ruling, Galani approached the Producers’ Guild, which is headed by Mukesh Bhatt. Bhatt sent a stern letter to the Federation of Western India Cine Association, saying that the non-cooperation decision wasn’t valid, since it was unilateral.
Galani has now filed a defamation case for Rs 250 crore against Salman, alleging that the course of action that the star had taken has damaged his reputation as a producer.
