Palghar : Pravina Hitendra Thakur, the wife of Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) president and Vasai MLA Hitendra Thakur, is all set to officially become the first woman mayor of Vasai-Virar on June 29.

Even this election would be unopposed, after she was elected unopposed from her ward in Vasai (west) during the recent Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation election (VVMC). The BVA has won around 93 per cent of the seats, or 106 out of 115, and the three independents are also likely to offer support to them, taking the overall tally to 109, making Monday’s mayoral elections a mere formality.

While the mayor’s position is confirmed, 5 corporators from BVA have filed nominations to contest for the deputy mayor’s post. While all these names had been doing rounds before the elections, the picture would be clear only on Monday.
