“Indrani is responding to the treatment  but her breathing is slow.  She is not on ventilator support but breathing with the help of oxygen masks.”

Mumbai : The urine samples of Indrani Mukerjea which were sent for testing to Hinduja Hospital for analysis has tested positive for presence of anti-depressant drugs, said Dr TP Lahane dean of JJ Hospital on Saturday.

However, the gastric lavage samples which were sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina have reported to be negative which has added another twist to the case. Indrani is in a semi-conscious state but still not out of danger; next 48 hours is critical, informed Lahane.

Indrani is currently recuperating in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital since Friday afternoon after she had allegedly overdosed on anti-epileptic pills. “Indrani is responding to the treatment and commands but her breathing is slow. She is not on ventilator support but breathing with the help of oxygen masks. We will access her condition for 72 hours, of which 24 hours has passed. She is in deep sleep now but her vital parameters and blood pressure are stable,” informed Lahane.

Meanwhile, sources from the hospital stated that the tablets consumed by Indrani at Arthur Road Jail were anti-depressant and anti-epilepsy pills. The names of the pills are Mirtrazapine and Benzodiazepine.

In the last 48 hours, doctors had also conducted a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test which showed everything normal. Lahane further added that none of the relatives had come to visit Indrani in the past 24 hours

FSL sources stated that they had received blood, urine and gastric lavage samples for testing on Friday which have tested negative for presence of drugs.

“The urine test from Hinduja hospital confirms that there is an overdose of drugs. Gastric lavage test cannot clearly determine the presence of drugs as whatever one consumes gets washed out of the body in three hours. However, this can be determined in a much more accurate way through urine tests as they can detect presence of drugs or food for longer hours,” explained Lahane.
