Mumbai : With no finality on alliances among major political parties, the ongoing ‘Pitru Paksha’ and the introduction of the online filing of nominations has resulted in just one candidate filing papers over the past four days for the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) polls.
“Though filing of nomination papers began on Tuesday, no nomination papers were filed for the first three days. On Friday, only one independent candidate from Manda (West) ward no. 8 filed his nomination papers,” Deepak Patil, the deputy municipal commissioner of KDMC, told FPJ.
‘Pitru Paksha’ (fortnight of rituals for ancestors) is the period when people generally avoid initiating new ventures. The fortnight ends on October 12 and October 13 is the last day of filing the nominations. Hence, a majority of nomination papers are expected to be filed on the first two days of next week.
The online filing of nominations, too, is said to be one of the reasons that is keeping people away from filing nominations for the elections. But the uncertainty over alliance is the main reason why the pace of filing nominations has not yet picked up. The BJP’s state unit is busy in preparing for PM Narendra Modi’s rally on Sunday. This means any decision on the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is not likely to come before Monday.
