Mumbai : In a yet another stain on Khaki, sleuths of the Navi Mumbai Crime Branch arrested two police constables from Matunga police station on Tuesday for allegedly kidnapping a builder and robbing around Rs 10 lakh from him two weeks ago.
Sources from the police confirmed the arrest of two police constables who are being identified as Dhananjay Gharale and Santosh Satane while the other two accused are Mohammed Hanif Ismail Fidatar and Salim Mohammed Ilias Sheikh.
It is learnt that the two accused constables allegedly maintained a proxy diary on the pretext of investigating a case in Andheri but instead went to Sanpada to carry out the robbery.
As per the complainant, he was sitting in his vehicle near Sanpada’s Moraj Circle when he was allegedly kidnapped by the four accused on December 23.
“The complainant alleged that the accused put him in a Xylo car and took him around Navi Mumbai while threatening to kill him. They then took the money which he had with him and dumped him in Sanpada. The complainant approached us after he read about the Vashi incident in the newspapers. The offence was registered a few days ago,” said a crime branch official. The accused have been booked under Sections 395 (punishment for dacoity), 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 170 (personating a public servant) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Just a day after this robbery, three policemen attached to Trombay police station were nabbed by Vashi Police for their alleged role in a similar robbery. However, the police are now trying to establish if the two robberies were carried out together as the modus operandi used in both the cases was the same.
