Mumbai: Two people sustained injuries after slab of thier room collapsed in their residence in Dakshta society, at Ramabai Nagar in Ghatkopar (E) on Saturday morning. According to the local residents, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred in this building. Despite several complaints by the residents, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) continues to turn a blind eye. The residents say, some major repair work was going on in room number 26, on the second floor for two to three days. The family of Shivaji Kute, which resides below the room where work was going on, brought to the contractor’s attention that their slab is in a dilapidated condition and that they need to work cautiously. However, the workers and the contractor ignored their alert and continued to work vigorously.

On Saturday morning, when Kute and his wife were sitting on their bed in the outside room, the slab of the house suddenly collapsed on them. “They were rescued by the neighbours and locals and were rushed to the nearby Kohinoor Private Hospital for treatment. Shivaji has sustained injuries on his forehead and his wife has fractured her hand,” said his son-in-law Raosaheb Avhad. Dakshta society at Ghatkopar Ramabai Nagar was built in 1996 for police and retired government employees. Now the building is in a dilapidated condition, however, no steps have been taken to evacuate the building and provide alternate housing arrangements to the residents.
