Mumbai : Water logging and slow traffic movement owing to heavy rains from Thursday onwards led to minor disruptions in ambulance services. Civic officials informed that the ambulance services were available and running throughout the day on Thursday, but a major stumbling block was slow vehicular movement. Keeping the ailing condition of patients in mind, they were admitted to the nearest hospitals in the city in case immediate treatment was needed.
The rains not only disrupted the daily lives of Mumbaikars, but also took a toll on people’s health. Suspended train services, waterlogging and traffic jams in most of the areas of the city turned out to be major concerns for patients suffering from illnesses.
Thursday was nothing less than a nightmare for Nazma Khan (name changed), a resident of Byculla who is seven-months pregnant. Her husband said that she was suffering from a severe stomach ache since 8:30 on Thursday morning, following which he immediately called for an ambulance as she was unable to walk owing to immense pain.
Nazma’s husband said that his wife usually goes to Sion hospital for consulations. However, owing to snail-paced traffic at Sion flyover, the ambulance took her to JJ hospital.
“When the ambulance arrived at 9, we asked them to take us to Sion hospital. But the driver explained the situation to us and he advised us that I should admit my wife in JJ hospital, which is near my house. Even in the case of JJ hospital, it took us 45 minutes to reach and I was very scared for my wife and baby throughout the travel,” he said.
