Traders across the country will launch a protest against the decision of imposing a 5% GST on unregistered brands. Members of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) will submit a letter to the district collector addressing the prime minister of India on July 8.

Earlier, the Grain market of Agriculture Produce Market Committee Mumbai (APMC) in Vashi had opposed the move of imposing a 5% GST on unregistered brands and said that the decision would impact the small traders and finally end-users like common people. It will push inflation further which is already high.

According to Shankar Thakkar, president of CAIT of the Mumbai region, traders will keep the protest as this is related to their livelihood.

Until now, only branded flour, pulses, and rice were subject to GST. After the implementation of this decision, all unbranded foods like wheat, fish, honey, flour, milk, curd, cheese, pulses, snacks, and biscuits will be taxed under the GST and it will increase the problems of small traders.
