Mumbai: Shiv Sena has demanded that the Dadar metro station (part of the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Line or Line 3,) be named after the Shiv Sena Bhavan because of its proximity to the party’s headquarters. In a letter to CM Devendra Fadnavis, Anil Desai, Sena member of the Rajya Sabha, has said Sena Bhavan has been just next to the Dadar Metro station. Hence it should be named as ‘Shiv Sena Bhavan’ Metro station.
“The Dadar metro station is being constructed near Shiv Sena Bhavan. Central and Western Railways both have a Dadar station. Why repeat the same name for the metro?” asked Desai in his letter. The Shiv Sena Bhavan, which was inaugurated on June 19, 1977, by the party founder Bal Thackeray, is located right next to the upcoming metro station.
“The site has witnessed the ‘sons of the soil’ movement of the Marathi people. In fact, all these years, bus stops in the surrounding area are called ‘Shiv Sena Bhavan’,” he wrote. Other stations on the Mumbai Metro-3 line are being named the Science Museum, Siddhivinayak Mandir and Shitaladevi, depending on their proximity to these places, stated Desai. Touted as the first underground metro line in the city, the 33.5-km-long Metro 3 has 27 stations. The Sena has also demanded the Nagpur-Mumbai expressway, a pet project of Fadnavis, be named after Bal Thackeray.
