Mumbai : There seems to be hope for MHT-CET, the way the hearing in the Supreme Court is progressing, said Dr. Pravin Shingare, Director, Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER).
The decision on the matter is pending and is expected on Monday, May 9 at 4 pm. “The Supreme Court has indicated that it is in favour of government CET. But there is a difference between indication and judgement,” he said.
The State is hopeful that the MHT-CET be held valid for at least this year. “The SC has indicated that it wants private and deemed universities that are not under government CETs to be brought under NEET (National Eligibility and Entrance Test),” Dr. Shingare said. Out of 15 private medical colleges in Maharashtra, nine are already under MHT-CET, he said. Only six hold their own entrance tests.
“There is chance that MHT-CET is given the green signal,” he said. Over 2,70,000 medical aspirants across the state appeared for the MHT-CET on Thursday, May 5. MHT-CET’s validity is under question since the SC decision on April 11 that the national level NEET be made the entrance test for admission into undergraduate medical courses.
